<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Friday, February 26, 2010 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM – February 26, 2010 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Ms. Szakos. <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell reviewed the proposed City’s FY 2011 budget and the results of <br />the budget survey. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Dr. Brown, Mr. O’Connell said staff used former <br />Governor Kaine’s budget and a portion of the new Governor’s budget when developing <br />the budget. <br /> <br /> Dr. Rosa Atkins, Superintendent of City Schools, said that the Schools also used <br />former Governor Kaine’s budget and a portion of the new Governor’s budget when <br />preparing their budget. Dr. Atkins said funding from the State has decreased by 10%. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ed Gillaspie, Finance Director for City Schools, said a 4% reduction in the <br />School’s workforce is proposed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris asked about the public’s reaction to the School’s budget. <br /> <br /> Dr. Atkins said she is hearing from School employees that they do not want a cut <br />in classroom staff, but they appreciate that the proposed cuts are school wide. She said <br />she has heard concern about keeping low class sizes and maintaining arts programs. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Norris, Dr. Atkins said no salary increases are <br />proposed. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />_____________________________ _____________________________ <br />President Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
