Ayes: Ms. <br />Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Noes: None. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: UNITED WAY REQUEST RE: ENCROACHMENT OF BUILDING <br /> <br /> Mr. Gouldman explained that the United Way building is under contract to be sold and <br />a survey showed that the building encroached on the city's right-of-way by 16.53 feet. Mr. <br />Gouldman noted that the fair market price is estimated to be $250, but the quitclaim is being <br />requested at no cost, with the new owners agreeing to either remove or maintain the <br />handicapped ramp to the building. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the ordinance entitled "AN <br />ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE THE CONVEYANCE OF CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY <br />LOCATED ON EAST MARKET STREET TO THE UNITED WAY - THOMAS <br />JEFFERSON AREA" was offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty reminded the public that a public forum on reversion will be held on <br />Sunday, February 1 lth. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter said that a bill has been introduced in the General Assembly which will <br />require notice to local governments regarding polluted waters and discharge permits, and <br />requested that the Council go on record in support of the bill. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously <br />supported the bill requiring notice to local governments regarding polluted waters and <br />discharge permits. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recommended that the City Planning Commission work with the <br />Albemarle County Planning Commission to investigate additional safeguards for the Rivanna <br />River. <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards said that the Martin Luther King celebration has been rescheduled to <br />Sunday, February 1 lth. <br /> <br /> <br />
