High Street, said that he has no problem now riding a bike on <br />West Main Street. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Brough, property owner on West Main Street, asked about the impact of bike <br />lanes on loading zones and also asked about snow removal plans if bike lanes are installed. <br /> <br />Mr. Huja said loading will be allowed in bike lanes. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brough said the city will be taking the risk of reversing property value increases if <br />the bike lanes are added. Mr. Brough said parking is important to the value of property. <br /> <br /> A resident of Grove Street said that while she fides her bike on West Main Street she <br />does not feel safe doing so, and added the bike lanes will make other bikers feel safe. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brandon Smith, 226 South Street, said he supports bike lanes now and in the <br />future. He urged Council to solicit opinions from other citizens. Mr. Smith said West Main <br />Street should be widened, and he encouraged Council to take a better, more aggressive, <br />long-term approach to the issue. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Hermsmier of Quail Crossing, said that making West Main Street more biker <br />friendly will help businesses. <br /> <br /> A resident of 1088 E. Rio Road supported alternative//12, and encourage Council to <br />focus on future alternative means of transportation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jeff Toma, 300 Montebello Circle, said bike lanes will increase the safety to bikers <br />and will reduce the traffic congestion. Mr. Toma said that no statistics have been presented <br />by the merchants that removing parking will hurt their businesses. Mr. Toma supported <br />alternative #12. <br /> <br /> Ms. Sarah Shelf,. North Berkshire Road, supported bike lanes and alternatives #9 and <br />#12. She said she would favor adding additional off-street parking. <br /> <br /> A resident of 708-B Monticello Avenue asked Council to remember that the <br />Comprehensive Plan calls for bike lanes on West Main Street being a priority, not Grady <br />Avenue. <br /> <br /> Mr. Roger Fager provided an alternative route from the University using Wertland <br />Avenue and going through neighborhoods north of West Main Street. <br /> <br /> Ms. Janet Daro, 1312 Carter Lane, supported bike lanes and said other communities are <br />more biker friendly <br /> <br /> Ms. Elizabeth Crisfield, 119 Appletree Road, representing the Charlottesville Albemarle <br />Bicycling Association (CHALBA), said that CHALBA conducted a parking study on West <br />Main Street. Ms. Crisfield encouraged Council to negotiate sharing private parking lots for <br />public use, to build additional lots since the money has already been allocated, to clarify <br />existing off-street parking available now, and improve lighting in public lots. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mark Brayman, Mill Creek South, said he was recently hit with a rock while <br />bicycling on West Main Street, and appreciated the assistance given him by merchants. Mr. <br />Brasmaan asked Council to consider alternative #3 and #9. Mr. Brayman expressed concern <br />about bikers being hit by car doors opening if alternative #12 is implemented. Mr. Brayman <br />questioned whether bike lanes are needed at all and requested that bikes be allowed to pass to <br />the right of traveling cars. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Heather Place, 129 Brandywine Place, expressed concern about pollution, and <br />supported alternative #12. <br /> <br /> Mr. Alexis Ziegler, 1014 Grove Street, said that if the city wants people to ride bikes <br />then bike lanes are needed <br /> <br /> <br />
