160 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Charlottesville City Council, on behalf of the <br />Charlottesville conhmunity, would like to cormnend the City employees who participated in <br />emergency and relief efforts, and thank them for selflessly devoting their time and energies <br />for the public good, often at the expense of their own and their families' comfort. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said that he and Bill Harris attended and spoke in favor of a fair housing <br />commission at the Thomas Jefferson Planning District COmmission fair housing public <br />heating, and there was a lively discussion of the issue. The Commission voted to do a <br />feasibility study for a regional fair housing commission and to investigate a rental occupancy <br />program. In addition, a fair housing ordinance was reinserted in the Com~nission's priorities. <br />Mr. Cox said he is also pleased that the Social Development Corranission is discussing the <br />issue of a fair housing commission as Well. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty efforts are continuing with Garrett Square tenants and management <br />regarding the fence surrounding the property. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter announced a downtown charette on October 5 fi-om 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 <br />noon at NationsBank. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said that there will be a live satellite teleconference of the interagency <br />on women on September 28th at Piedmont Virginia Community College from 2:00 to 4:00 <br />p.m <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Richards, seconded by Mr. Toscano, Council unanimously voted to <br />meet in executive session for the purpose of considering the acquisition or use of real <br />property for public purpose, or the disposition of publicly held property, as authorized by <br />Section 2.1-344(A)(3) of the Virginia Code, and more specifically described as property off <br />Pen Park Road, and for the purpose of consultation with legal counsel and briefings by staff <br />members, consultants or attorneys, pertaining to actual or probable litigation, or other <br />specific legal matters requiting the provision of legal advice by counsel, as authorized by <br />Section 2.1-344(A)(7) of the Virginia Code. The substance of the matters to be discussed <br />can reasonably be identified as follows: changes in the form of local government structure, <br />and related alternatives.
