APPROPRIATION: $817,500 - Burnley Moran School Renovations <br /> (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that the sum <br />of $817,500 is hereby transferred from the FY 1994-95 Capital Improvements Fund <br />contingency and added to sums already appropriated to account code 26-181-122026 in the <br />Capital Fund to fund the renovation of Burnley-Moran Elementary School, for a total <br />projected cost of $3,634,500. <br /> <br />g. APPROPRLasTION: $123,900 - Community Service Officers for school security <br /> (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council for the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that the <br />sum of $79,990 is hereby appropriated from the public safety reserve in account <br />05-101-031020, and the sum of $44,000 is hereby transferred from the Charlottesville Public <br />School budget for a total appropriation of $123,900.00 to be placed in account number <br />05-270-041030 (Police/Patrol), for the purpose of hiring five (5) Community Service Officers <br />to provide security in the Charlottesville schools. This appropriation is conditioned upon <br />receipt of $44,000 from the Charlottesville Public Schools. <br /> <br />h. RESOLUTION: Proclaiming Women's Equality Day <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, great sacrifices by workers for women's rights were required to obtain <br />passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving women the fight to vote; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Charlottesville has flourished due in large part to the civic, educational <br />and spiritual leadership of women; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in the pat 20 years laws and policies in the United States and the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia have slowly changed to create equality in educational and work <br />settings and in the division of marital property and to prevent sexual assault, domestic <br />violence, and sexual harassment; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, some policies in private and public institutions and employrnent still have <br />unfair or inequitable effects on women; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, many negative stereotypes about gender limit opportunities for all people <br />to achieve their fullest potentials; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, we, the City Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, do <br />hereby proclaim August 26, 1994 as WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY in remembrance of all <br />those women and men who have worked for a more equitable community, nation and world <br />in which women and men, girls and boys, share equally the burdens and benefits, <br />opportunities and hazards of our society. <br /> <br /> We acknowledge and celebrate the human similarities and the important differences <br />between women and men. Yet we urge the public and private sectors of our community to <br />improve their policies on family leave, nondiscrimination in hiring and job promotion and <br />equal pay for equal work. <br /> <br /> We commit our city to affim~ative action to overcome the effects of past discrimination <br />and stereotypes and to ensure equality of rights, duties, privileges and the responsibilities for <br />all people, regardless of gender or race. <br /> <br />i. RESOLUTION: <br /> <br />Accepting streets into city system <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, on <br />recommendation of the City Engineer, and City Manager that the following streets, or <br />portions of streets, which have been built to City standards and specifications, are hereby <br />accepted into the City street system for maintenance: <br /> <br /> <br />
