RESOLUTION: <br /> <br />Granting easement for ramp for Worrett Building on <br />Market Street <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that the City <br />Manager is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City, in form approved by the City <br />Attorney, the following document: <br /> <br />Consent of Encroachment agreement between Region Ten <br />Community Services Board and the City to acknowledge an <br />encroachment of a handicapped access ramp upon the public <br />sidewalk in front of 413 East Market Street <br /> <br /> A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the minutes of the Council <br />meeting at which this resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: PROCLAIMING "YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND" DAY <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the resolution proclaiming <br />"You've Got a Friend" Day was approved by Council, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Slaughter <br />absent. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on Saturday, September 24, 1994 at Charlottesville High School, the <br />Charlottesville Police Officer's Association and the Charlottesville Police Department wilt <br />sponsor "You've Got a Friend," an event which Mll enable the police to reach out to the <br />Charlottesville conununity, specifically targeting children in grades K through 6th, in an <br />interactive environment in order to highlight who the police are and what they do for the <br />community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the goals of"You've Got a Friend" are as follows: <br /> <br />- To bring back the role model image of the police officer; <br />- To concentrate on the community's Children in grades K-6th, <br /> promoting a better understanding of why the police are their <br /> "friends;" <br />- To reach out to the members of the community who do not <br /> have frequent contact with the police, but who would <br /> support their efforts in the community if they had a better <br /> understanding of who they are and what they do; <br />- To develop a sense of unity between the local law enforcement <br /> agencies; <br />- To present the Charlottesville Police Department and the City <br /> management to the community as an organization that is there <br /> to serve the community; <br />- To reach out to the neighborhoods within the community that <br /> may see the police as "outsiders" and to reaffirm the idea <br /> that the police are there to serve everyone equally and fairly; <br /> and <br />- To educate the community on how they can work with the <br /> police to create a safer environment. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, approximately 150 law enforcement representatives, service <br />organization representatives and other volunteers are expected to be present over the <br />duration of the event; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, "You've Got a Friend" will serve as an introduction to the community of <br />a new understanding that will hopefully develop between the community's youth and the <br />police and will be reinforced throughout the year with other events and activities. <br /> <br /> <br />
