173 On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, Council unanimously certified that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the executive meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion convening the executive meeting were heard, discussed or considered by the Council. RESOLUTION: APPROVING LUMP SUM SETTLEMENT OF A WORKERS' COMPENSATION CLAIM On mot~ion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Slaughter the resolution approving a lump sum settlement of a workers' compensation claim was unanimously approved by Council. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia: It appearing to be in the best interests of the City, and it being at the request of our employee, who is represented by counsel, we hereby approve a lump sum settlement of a workers' compensation claim in the amount of $54,500.00 plus two years of medical benefits, all as agreed between staff and the employee (whose name is not stated here for reasons of confidentiality). The Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make.payment from the Risk Management Fund in accordance with the settlement terms. The approval hereby given for the entire settlement is conditioned~upon formal approvalvof the settlement by the Industrial Commission of the State of Virginia. pr~ing was adj ourne d. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Mr. Hendrix briefed the Council on the following: opening of Belmont Bridge; bids on Health Department Building; schedule for refuse collection requests for proposals; leaf collection completion; citizen survey aVailability; and budget calendar. Mr. Gary O'Connell, Deputy City Manager, stated that representatives of the League of Women Voters have discouraged staff about holding small, informal infOrmation meetings on the City's finances because they felt that suggestions would probably have little affect on the City's budget given the current financial situation. It was agreed that a decision on whether to hold the meetings would be delayed until the citizen survey results have been compiled.
