Edwards, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, <br />Council unanimously certified that, to the best of each <br />member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully <br />exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were <br />discussed in the executive meeting to which this <br />certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public <br />business matters as were identified in the motion convening <br />the executive meeting were heard, discussed or considered by <br />the Council. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING LUMP SUM SETTLEMENT OF A WORKERS' <br />COMPENSATION CLAIM <br /> <br /> On mot~ion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Slaughter <br />the resolution approving a lump sum settlement of a workers' <br />compensation claim was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia: <br /> <br /> It appearing to be in the best interests of the City, and <br />it being at the request of our employee, who is represented by <br />counsel, we hereby approve a lump sum settlement of a workers' <br />compensation claim in the amount of $54,500.00 plus two years <br />of medical benefits, all as agreed between staff and the <br />employee (whose name is not stated here for reasons of <br />confidentiality). Edwards, Ms. <br />Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix briefed the Council on the following: <br />opening of Belmont Bridge; bids on Health Department Building; <br />schedule for refuse collection requests for proposals; leaf <br />collection completion; citizen survey aVailability; and budget <br />calendar. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary O'Connell, Deputy City Manager, stated that <br />representatives of the League of Women Voters have discouraged <br />staff about holding small, informal infOrmation meetings on <br />the City's finances because they felt that suggestions would <br />probably have little affect on the City's budget given the <br />current financial situation. It was agreed that a decision on <br />whether to hold the meetings would be delayed until the <br />citizen survey results have been compiled. <br /> <br /> <br />
