259 <br /> <br />and coordinate those already in existence; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, JAUNT, Inc., through its regional ridesharing <br />division has developed a proposal called "ODYSSEY" to conduct <br />such an operational test project that has been targeted for <br />funding by the Federal Highway Administration. <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the <br />City of Charlottesville fully supports conducting the <br />operational test known heretofore as "ODYSSEY" and urges the <br />Board of Directors of JAUNT, Inc., to seriously consider <br />supporting the ODYSSEY project. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, <br />Council unanimously voted to instruct Ms. Helen Poore, staff <br />representative on the JAUNT Board, to support the Odyssey <br />grant application. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $20,000 - Community Liaison - West Main Street <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix recommended that Council appropriate $20,000 <br /> for a 14 month period, through June 30, 1995, to be taken out <br /> of FY 93/94 cigarette tax revenue. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the <br />appropriation of $20,000 for the Community Liaison for West <br />Main Street was offered and carried over to the next meeting <br />for consideration. <br /> <br /> Council agreed that the Citizens Advisory Commission for <br />Efficient Government would formally present their reports at a <br />Council meeting and a follow-up work session would held with <br />Councilors and the Commission members. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recommended that a suggestion box be <br />provided for citizen comments in City Hall and that <br />periodically these comments be published in "City Notes." <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty announced that the Economic Strategy <br />workshop would be held on April 19th. <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards stated that the Darden Towe Memorial <br />Committee continues to work on providing a relief of Mr. Towe <br />for placement in Darden Towe Park. <br /> <br /> <br />~eting was adjourned. <br />president <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 2, 1994 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Ms. Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Terry Shotwell, owner of two restaurants on the downtown mall, stated that <br />currently 14 newspaper boxes are lined up next to one of her restaurants and requested <br />that Council take action to control the appearance and location of the boxes. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter noted that the proposed news kiosk may have an impact on the <br />situation and Mr~ Vandever added that Council has also discussed the idea of requiring <br />vendors to rent space in uniform boxes. <br /> <br /> <br />
