Mr. King suggested that the City work <br />with landlords rather than penalize them. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, <br />Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to <br />discuss personnel matters as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a) <br />(1) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, more <br />specifically described as aPpointments to boards and <br />commissions. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Mr. <br />Toscano, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, unanimously certified <br />that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public <br />business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the executive <br />meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and <br />(ii) only such public business mattes as were identified in <br />the motion convening the executive meeting were heard, <br />discussed or considered by the Council. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Ms. Waters, the <br />following appointments were unanimouSly made: .Ms. Dawn L. <br />Thompson to a four-year term as the citizen representative on <br />the Board of Architectural Review (term to expire February <br />28, 1996); Mr. Brian Edward Campbell to a two-year term on <br />the Jefferson Area Board for Aging Advisory Council on Aging <br />(term to expire March 31, 1994); and Ms. Carolyn W. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. <br />Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wade Tremblay, volunteer chairman of the United Way <br />Child Care scholarships, explained that the purpose of the <br />agency is to provide child care scholarships to persons just <br />above the poverty level who are employed or in school. Mr. <br />Tremb!ay stated that currently.30 full-time scholarships are <br />offered and matching funds may be available which could <br />double the scholarships available. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Ms. Waters, Mr. Tremblay <br />stated that the agency works closely with the Department of <br />Social Services and CVCDA, but has had little contact with <br />the CACY Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />
