As a member of the City Parks <br />Committee, Mr. Towe stated that a public meeting with be held <br />by the Parks Committee on June 6th in Tonsler Park to hear <br />suggestions for Tonsler Park improvements. Mr. Towe also <br />recommended that the Council recognize the Charlottesville <br />High School basketball team for its accomplishments. <br /> <br />President C C/~ <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 4, 1992 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. <br />Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Ms. Waters, the <br />minutes of the March 30th meeting were unanimously approved <br />as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />minutes of the March 31st meeting were unanimously approved <br />as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />minutes of the April 3rd meeting were approved as presented, <br />with Mr. Toscano abstaining. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Ms. Waters, the <br />minutes of the April 6th meeting were unanimously approved as <br />presented. <br /> <br /> On motion~by Ms. Waters, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, the <br />minutes of the April 10th meeting were approved as presented, <br />with Mr. Vandever abstaining. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Mr. Vandever, <br />the minutes of the April 20th meeting were approved as <br />presented, with Rev. Edwards abstaining. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />REQUEST: TAX EXEMPTION FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE AND RESCUE PERSONNEL <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that a request has been made by the <br />volunteer fire and rescue personnel to abate the first $4,500 <br />of value on one vehicle for personal property taxes. Mr. <br />Hendrix stated that the County has approved the request and <br />estimated that the revenue loss would be between $11,340 and <br />$13,600 for the 60'to 72 people who would be eligible. Mr. <br />Hendrix added that volunteer fire and rescue personnel are <br />currently exempted from purchasing automobile decals and are <br />allowed to park free in metered parking spaces owned by the <br />City and for unlimited times in timed parking spaces. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano questioned whether the volunteer fire <br />fighters are needed to maintain the CityJs fire rating. Mr. <br />Hendrix stated that the rating agencies would need to be <br />contacted with regard to the rating, but did feel that the <br />existence of the volunteer fire department helps the <br />insurance rating. <br /> <br /> <br />
