142 <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, <br />Council unanimously certified that, to the best of each <br />member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully <br />exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were <br />discussed in the executive meeting to which this <br />certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public <br />business matters as were identified in the motion convening <br />the executive meeting were heard, discussed or considered by <br />the Council. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND COmmISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Mr. Toscano, Ms. <br />Clare Ribando was unanimously appointed to an unexpired term <br />as a youth representative on the Charlottesville-Albemarle <br />Children and Youth Commission. This term will expire <br />December 1~ 1992. <br /> / <br />p~me~ adj °ur ne di l~k ~..4 <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER- June 1, 1992 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. <br />Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, the <br />minutes of the May 13th meeting were approved as presented, <br />with Mr. Vandever abstaining. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />minutes of the May 18th meeting were unanimously approved as <br />presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards announced that the Council will be honoring <br />students for their achievements at Charlottesville High <br />School at a pizza lunch on June 3rd. <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: SCHOOL BOARD APPOINTMENTS <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards announced the following names of persons <br />who have applied to date for the vacancies on the School <br />Board: Bill Lucy~ Richard Matthews, Steve Friedman, Rauzelle <br />Smith, Dave Rutherford, Jim Hoff and Muriel Wiggins. <br /> <br />The public hearing was opened. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gib Akin spoke on behalf of Mr. Steve Friedman and <br />stated that Mr. Friedman would bring policy analysis <br />experience and a commitment to increasing parental and school <br />board involvement to the School Board. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Peterson supported Mr. Friedman for the School <br />Board. <br /> <br /> Mr. Darden Towe, 607 Davis Avenue, supported the <br />reappointment of Mr. Rauzelle Smith to the School Board. <br /> <br /> As there were no further Speakers the public hearing was <br />closed. <br /> <br /> <br />
