Edwards, Ms. <br />Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br /> Following is a listing of major issues discussed at the <br />Council's annual retreat, with follow-up listed as <br />appropriate. <br /> <br />SOLID WASTE <br /> <br />Yard Waste <br /> <br />1· Legislative initiatives on composting. <br /> <br />Study. <br /> <br />Periodic progress reports on Composting Facility <br /> <br />Commercial Recy~lin~ <br /> <br /> 1. Facilitate/coordinate with Rivanna Water and Sewer <br />Authority recycling coordinator· Match haulers to business· <br /> <br />- timetable for options <br />- who privately interested? <br />- identify providers <br />- who pays? <br />- role city in commercial recycling <br />- research other cities (models) <br /> various collection systems <br /> types of materials collected <br /> · financing options who, how pays <br /> · curbside, central collections <br /> <br />2. Status report to Council on November 1. <br /> <br />Dumpsters <br /> <br /> 1. Request bids for dumpster service by private <br />companies. <br /> <br /> 2. Develop plan to explore by mid-November: <br />financing, criteria, timetable. <br /> <br />options, <br /> <br />Curbside Collection <br /> <br /> Explore incentives for employees for reducing cost of <br />solid waste - staff develop a process and recommendations. <br />Judy Mueller will prepare report on timetable and decisions <br />agreed to at the retreat for dumpster and curbside <br />collection. No layoffs propoposed. <br /> <br />REINVENTING GOVERNMENT <br /> <br />Revisit Vision/Values <br /> <br />1. Look at "anticipating the future." <br /> <br />2. Community visioning process/forum. <br /> <br /> <br />
