253 <br /> <br /> Ms, Slaughter said that under reversion the town would still ha3~e five at-large town <br />councilors and a seat on the County Board of Supervisors and County School Board. <br />Slaughter said she feels that. the expertise of the voting study is neede& <br /> <br /> The voting district study was authori~zed by the following vote~ Ayes; _Mn Co~ Ms~ <br />Daugherty, Ms. Richards, Ms. Slaughter. _Absent: Mr. Toscano. <br /> <br /> The proposal to have the League of Women Voters hold a symposium on reversion was <br />discussed, and it was agreed that a more detailed description of the proposal would be <br />brought back to Council after the League meets next week~ <br /> <br /> Mss Sandy Snook, a League of Women Voters' observer at the meeting, said that the <br />League wants to look beyond the reversion issue and to facilitate a community look at a <br />whole range of options. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Cox said that [f Council convenes an advisow commission he feels confident that it <br />will be as inclusive as possible, and asked if the League can. guarantee that a diverse group <br />will be forme& <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said she is very. comfortable with the League's proposal, and confident <br />about the League's thoroughness, research, and ability to think in ter._ms of the future: Ms. <br />Richards agreed that any such effort should include a diverse group of ci.tizens~ <br /> <br /> Regarding focus groups, Ms. Daugherty said that she feels that Council is already <br />addressing this, but Councilors could themselves convene ceaain groups. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox suggested that Council consider using outside volunteer facilkators to meet <br />with groups of citizens. <br /> Ms. Daugherty said she feels elected officials should meet with their constituents rather <br />than having outside facilitators.
