255 <br /> <br />Council discussed thei_r participation on various boards a_nd com~sio~_~s~ <br /> <br /> It was the consensus of Council that Council represemation was not ~necessary on the <br />following bo~ds; Cable Advi_~o_ry Commit~tee~ H_ig~_way S~y C~ omnis_si_on, Mc~uffey <br />Ce~ter Board, Parks and Recrea!ion Advi_so~, Committee~ and the Urban Design Com.mittee. <br /> <br /> Mr, Cox said he feels the Housing Authority is weight~ed too heavily wkh Council <br />Msmber~ and suggested reducing it to two Councilors ~d ~ a0_ditional citizen. Mr, Cox <br />said he feels the Housing Authority is too small for the amount of work re~omd, <br /> <br />Ms. ~R~..'.c_hards agreed that the Housing Authority could be expanded. <br /> <br /> Ms~. Daughert~v said she would be uneasy about reducing the number of Councilor_s on <br />the Housing Authority at this time~ buI said it. would be interesting ~o think about e.oanding <br />the total_, number of members. <br /> <br /> Mr, Co, suggested that Council set a target for reducing Council representation on the <br />Housing Authority and expand the ci6zen members, Mr~ Cox said he feels the City <br />Manager's~ office should be represented on the Housing Authority. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty suggested that the membership issues be discussed with the Housing <br />Authority itself. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gouldman said that the City's Charter limits the number of members on the <br />Housing Authority and he will look into the matter and repo~ back to Council= <br /> <br /> Council suggested reducing the number of Councilors on the Retirement, Commission <br />to one member and asked that the number required by Code be determine& <br /> <br /> It was agreed that Council representation would continue on the Social Services <br />Adviso~ Board~ <br /> <br /> Mr~ Toscano suggested that Councilors give an update on board activity from time to <br />time at the end of regular Council meetings. <br /> As a review of the CDBG Task Force and process will begin in May~ no action was <br />take~ <br /> <br /> No action was taken regarding the Cable Adviso~ Committee until the issue of <br />relocating the hcitity to CATEC is resolved. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'C0nnell explained that he feels the Social Development Commission needs <br />direction and ~ mission from Council <br /> <br /> It was agreed that Mr~ Cox and Ms, Daughe~y would spe_ak with Social Development <br />Commission members and report back to Council, <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said tha the Parks and Recreation Advisow Committee is re-evaluating <br />their mission now, and she will report back to Council on this issue. <br /> <br /> Mr_ Cox said the Urban Design Committee is in need of a mission and suggested that <br />they work on the Pen Park deve!opmem. <br /> <br /> Ms, Linda Peacock, Assistant City Manager, said that there are currently discussions <br />about combining the Charlottesville-Albemarle Children and Youth Commission and the <br />CM~T, and reconunendations will be forthcomi~ng on this. <br /> <br />Council's workplan was discussed; <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter said she thinks Council needs to discuss housing policies and related <br />issues. <br /> <br /> <br />
