In
conjunction with monthly breast se!f-examination and regular clinical breast examination,
mammography can help to discover breast cancer early, when the chances for successful
treatment area best.

NOW~ THEREFORE, we, the City Council of the City of Char!ottesvil!e, do hereby
proclaim October !997 as BREAST C.A_NCER AWARE~NESS MONTH, and urge all
women in Charlottesville to learn about early detection guidelines and to check with their
doctors about whether to get a mammogram. We urge each and every resident of
Charlottesville to encourage the women they care about to practice breast cancer early
detection.

CONSENT AGENDA

Regarding the sale of personal property at the District Home, Ms. Peacock explained
that the facility is a nursing and adult care facility and, following a consultant's study, it has
been concluded that it would be better to privatize the operation. A private provider has
proposed to buy the personal property from the existing facility and build a replacement
facility.

Mr. Robert Cox, Director of Social Services, explained that the City has four people in
the nursing home, with two being in_ adult care. Mr. Cox continued that no one has been
placed in the facility for eight years except on a temporary basis, and k has been realized for a
long time that a change needed to be made as there are much better facilities available that
cost less.

On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the following consen_t agenda
items were unanimously approved.
