<br /> Ms. Jean Hiatt, 1534 Rugby Avenue, said that the Parkc~v. ay is not a good idea and it
<br />will hurt many neighborhoods. Ms. Hyatt said she feels Mclntire Park can be better utilized,
<br />and suggested that it be made into an arboretum.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Francis Fife, 1605 Concord Drive, asked Council to vote to stop the Parkway,
<br />noting that he feels if they do, they will have a great deal of support.
<br />
<br /> Mr. George Lade, 107 Talleyhoe Drive, said that he was on the committee that drafted
<br />the CATS. Mr. Larie said that dependence on the automobile cannot be sustained, and he
<br />expressed concern that funding for alternative means of transportation is being reduced. Mr.
<br />Lade noted that Albemarle County has tried to reduce growth, but the County will grow
<br />regardless. Mr. Larie said he prefers Meadowcreek Parkway taking the present route rather
<br />than taking homes.

<br /> Mr, John Pfaltz, ! 503 Rugby Road, expressed concern that the Meadowcreek Parkway
<br />will be an eastern bypass into the City and it will impact Locust Avenue, Park Street and the
<br />250 Bypass. Mr. Pfaltz said roads are needed outside the city.
<br />
<br /> Mr. _Richard Price, 12!7 St. George Avenue, said the quality of life is the foundation of
<br />the future of Chadottesvit!e, and building more roads will hurt the City. Mr. Price
<br />recommended that other things be tried, including reducing traffic on Park Street.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Lucius Bracey, 724 Northwood Avenue, opposed the Parkway, and said that while
<br />he has sympathy for the residents of Park Street, he does not think the problem should be
<br />shifted to another neighborhood. Mr. Bracey asked who will control access to the road.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Lewis Martin, 808 Valleyview Circle, and his son Lewis, expressed concern about
<br />the impact of the Parkway on Mclntire Park.

<br /> Mr. Fran Lawrence, ! 729 Chesapeake Street, supported the Meadowcreek Parkw. ay.
<br />Mr. Lawrence noted that people had originally opposed the 250 Bypass and it is a beautiful
<br />road. Mr. Lawrence said that the life of the community requires viable connectors to places
<br />such as downtown, north and central grounds of the University, and 29 North. Mr.
<br />Lawrence said he wants the City to be accessible.

<br /> Mr. Warren Boeschenstein, 1849 Fendall Avenue, supported multi-modal
<br />transportation and a land use policy that encourages density where there is mass transit~
<br />
<br /> Mr. Waldo Jaquith, 2445 Cascades, Free Union, opposed the Meadowcreek Parkway,
<br />and noted that ! 55 people went on the walk along the proposed route of the Parkway.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Frank Stoner, 240 Chestnut Oak Lane, representing the Chamber of Commerce,
<br />supported the Meadowcreek Parkway and a balanced transportation plan.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Chris Dillard, 1002 Grove Street, said that he feels there is a lack of vision in the
<br />CATS plan, with 95% of the budget designated for road projects.
<br />
<br /> Mr. David Thacker, 1363 Wimbledon Way, said that Rio Road is unsafe and
<br />Meadowcreek Parkway is needed now.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Jack ~Stoner, 230 Chestnut Oak Lane, owner of a city business, said that he
<br />supports Fran Lawrence's statement, and feels that access is needed to downtown and out of
<br />neighborhoods.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brandon Smith, 3 ! ! E. Market Street, said that he rides the HOO bus and he feels
<br />it would be shortsighted to discontinue it~ Mr. Smith opposed the Parkway and said that
<br />more roads are not the solution to traffic problems.
<br />
<br /> Ms. Nancy Hurrelbrinck, 1020 St. Clair Avenue, recommended speed humps for Park
<br />Street and that a forum on alternative transportation be held.
