on the Comprehensive Plan, to which the Planning Commission <br />would be invited to be available for questions. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />$1,500 - DONATIONS TO MOUNTED POLICE FUND <br /> <br /> The $1,500 appropriation of donations to the mounted <br />police fund which was offered at the April 17th meeting was <br />approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Towe, <br />Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. Noes: None. Absent: Rev. <br />Edwards. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City has received donations from private <br />individuals in the amount of $1,500 in support of the mounted <br />police approved by City Council on March 20,~ 1989; now, <br />therefore, ~ <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that the sum of $1,500, received <br />as private donations, and such future sums as may be .received <br />from private donors, are hersby appropriated to the Police <br />Patrol Account (expenditure account 05-270-041030) for use in <br />conjunction with mounted police activities. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: SUPPORTING VIRGINIA HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT <br />GRANT FOR CHARTER HOUSE EXPANSION <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that Region Ten is proposing to apply <br />for $153,600 in VHDA funds for expansion of Charter House and <br />has requested Council's support for the grant application. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Buck, the <br />resolution supporting a Virginia Housing and Community <br />Development grant for Charter House expansion was unanimously <br />approved. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that this Council certifies to the <br />Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development <br />Council's approval of the application for a ~combined loan/ <br />grant of $153,600 from the Virginia Housing Partnership Fund <br />submitted by the Region Ten Community Services Board for the <br />expansion of Charter House on East market Street; provided, <br />however, that such expansion conforms to all zoning <br />requirements. Notwithstanding the above, the City will not <br />be responsible for any debt service charges or any financial <br />obligation or "match" in connection with the financing of the <br />aforesaid project. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING GRANT APPLICATION FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS <br />RESPONSE PROGRAM <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the resolution would authorize <br />the City to apply for a grant to set up a hazardous materials <br />response program which would jointly serve the City and <br />Albemarle County. <br /> <br /> Mr. Julian Taliaferro, Fire Chief, explained that the <br />grant of $25,000 this fiscal year and $25,000 after July 1 <br />would be used to purchase equipment for the response program. <br />Chief Taliaferro stated that the City will be reimbursed for <br />providing services for the 30 miles south and east of <br />Charlottesville, west to Afton and north to Culpeper. Chief <br />Taliaferro stated that the City will eventually have to buy a <br />vehicle for the program. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />resolution authorizing the grant application for a hazardous <br />materials response program was unanimously approved by <br />Council. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that the City Manager is hereby <br /> <br /> <br />
