39 <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 15, 1989 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards, Mr. Towe, <br />Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Rev. Edwards, the <br />minutes of the May 1st meeting were approved as presented, <br />with Mr. Buck absent for the vote. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Shannon Gimbert of the Jefferson Park Avenue/Harris <br />Road area, requested that signs restricting through trucks be <br />installed and that enforcement be increased to prevent <br />speeding vehicles. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that staff have discussed the matter <br />and will present Council with an ordinance at the June 5th <br />meeting which will allow the City to install signs <br />restricting through trucks, but added that he was uncertain <br />as to the amount of relief the signs would have. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters stated that staff and Council will also <br />explore other options for the area such as additional stop <br />signs. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gimbert noted concern that road improvements in the <br />area may increase the traffic problems. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Hicks, a resident of Heritage Hall, thanked the <br />Mayor for declaring Nursing Home Week. <br /> <br /> Ms. Betty Siegner, a resident of the Fry Springs <br />neighborhood, requested that Council make a clear commitment <br />to improving the traffic situation in Fry Springs and <br />construct needed sidewalks in the area. ~ <br /> <br /> Ms. Wanda Wolf of 2730 Jefferson Park Avenue stated that <br />two trucks have gone through the guard rail in her yard in <br />the past six days. Ms. Wolf requested that a new study of <br />the traffic in the area be conducted, that new sidewalks be <br />added immediately and that a three-way stop be installed at <br />the corner of Camilla, Harris and Jefferson Park Avenue. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mike Shifflett thanked the Mayor for declaring Child <br />Seekers Week. <br /> <br /> Mr. Chris Miller, a Jefferson Park Avenue resident, <br />requested that Council take action to address the traffic <br />problems in the neighborhood. Mr. Miller-stated that he was <br />pleased that the Planning Commission had recommended removing <br />improvements to Jefferson Park Avenue from the priority <br />listing to be sent to the Department of Transportation. Mr. <br />Miller noted concern with City buses exceeding the speed <br />limit. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters presented employees from the Public Works <br />Department with a proclamation proclaiming Public Works Week. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND C©MMISSIONS_ <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Rev. Edwards, Ms. <br /> Patricia Smith was unanimously reappointed to a three-year <br /> term as the joint City/County representative on the <br /> Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail Board. This term <br /> will expire on May 1~ 1992. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, Mr. <br />David Sheffield and Mr. Robert Moorefield were unanimously <br />reappointed to four-year terms on the Charlottesville <br /> <br /> <br />
