Mr. Towe noted concern about the gully at Quarry Park and Mr. O'Connell stated that the problem there would be very expensive to address. Mr. Vandever~ questioned whether the erosion at Azalea Park should be add. ressed earlier than scheduled. Mr. Buck questioned the amount of money proPosed for drainage projects given the fact that all but one of the high priority drainage projects have been completed. Mr. O'Connell stated that some .of the School Board's priorities may change as a result of their facility and programming study. Mr. Buck stated that he had questions about the high cost of undergrounding utilities and extending the east end of the downtown mall unless the improvements are tied in with other improvements and recommended instead that funds be set aside for activities that will generate additional people downtown. Mr. Buck also recommended that improved signage for downtown be addressed. Mr. Towe stated that he felt it was important to keep the post office downtown. Mr. Hendrix stated that should the mall be extended on the east end of the downtown mall, then the relocation of the post office will need to be addressed. Mr. Towe recommended~postponing a-decision about funding possibilities for downtown until after Council receives the report from the downtown charrette. Mr. Towe advised that it might be necessary to appropriate additional funds for Rivanna and McIntire Park. Mr. Towe stated that he hoped the School ~Board would ~give consideration to moving up athletic improvements at the high schoo!. Mr. Towe stated-that he felt the additional nine holes of golf at Pen park would be an amenity for the community. Mr. O'Conneil requested that Council indicate any concerns about Capital Projects funded in FY 89-90, but no objections were raised. The meeting was adjourned. Pr~dent COUNCIL CHAMBER - June 19, 1989 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Buck, Mr. Towe, Mr. Vandever. Absent: Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters. On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, Mr. Buck was elected presiding officer for the meeting, with Mr. Buck abstaining from the vote, due to the absence of Mayor Waters and Vice Mayor Edwards. MINUTES On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the minutes of the May 23rd meeting were approved as presented, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters absent. On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Towe, the minutes of the June 5th meeting were approved as presented, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters absent.
