Mr. Buck stated
that he would favor encouraging use of others areas, though
he understood that some of the auditoriums are used for
classes. Mr. Buck also noted that he understood that
because of the high demand for the space, very little remains
of the funds, appropriated by the City for the performance
subsidy, and additional funding may need to be approved if
Council wished to expand the program.

Mr. Jim Dunbar, Assistant Superintendent of Schools,
stated that he has been researching ~the matter to determine
the original intent of Council and_ the School Board with
regard to the subsidy and use of various school auditoriums.

Ms. Waters stated that she would favor allowing
cOmmunity arts groups to use space in the schools if the
spaces are vacant~

Mr. Dunbar stated that someone would need to supervise
use of the equipment at the schools, as is done at CHS, which
would increase the cost for use of the faCility.

It was agreed that the School Board and Council would
wait for a staff report before taking further action.

A tour was given the School Board and Counci~ of Venable
Elementary School and Mr. Dunbar stated that the dedication
of the newly renovated schools was tentatively set for
January 28tho

The meeting was adjourned,

Presid~t~ ' r.~ ~rk

NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETI~NG

A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Sunday,
November 12, 1989 AT 1:30 p,m.
