243 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, <br />April 11, 1990 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - April 11, 1990 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards, Mr. Towe, <br />Mr. Vandever. Absent: Ms. Waters. <br /> <br /> Ms. Chris Thomas, Coordinator of School and Community <br />Re!ations~ gave an update of the School's strategic planning <br />process. Ms. Thomas stated that a planning team had been <br />formed consisting of community people, parents, teachers, and <br />principals. A second team had been formed consisting of <br />administrators, teachers, and general staff. Surveys <br />conc~'~nq~ the schools~have been sent out to members of the <br />community at ~arge, students, and the League of Women Voters. <br />Ms. Thomas not%d that a special survey had been developed for <br />use in the public ?housing projects. Ms. Thomas stated that <br />two initial i§~s that have been identified are the need to <br />maximize how children are grouped for instruction and the <br />need to help staff deal with the diversity of students in the <br />schools. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that he felt the survey forms were <br />inadequate in addressing potential weaknesses in the schools. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Towe, Ms. Linda <br />Seaman, School Board member, stated that the position of <br />principal at CATEC is being advertised. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lawrence Burruss, School Board member and a member <br />of the CATEC Board, stated that programs at CATEC had to be <br />cut because of the reduction in State funding, and noted that <br />enrollment had been a factor in this funding reduction. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe asked what the status was of the alternative <br />education programs and Mr. Pezzoli replied that a report has <br />been commissioned by the Superintendent and will be presented <br />to the School Board at a May study session. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - April 16, 1990 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards (arrived <br />late), Mr. Towe, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Buck, the minutes <br />of the March 28th meeting were approved as presented, with <br />Rev. Edwards absent for the vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />minutes of the March 29th meeting were approved as presented, <br />with Rev. Edwards absent for the vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />minutes of the April 2nd meeting were approved as presented, <br />with Rev. Edwards absent for the vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
