257 <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Towe, Mr. <br />Kurt Wassenaar was unanimously appointed to a five-year term <br />on the Building Code Board of Appeals. This term will expire <br />on December 15, 1994. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Vandever, Mr. <br />Jerry Stokes was unanimously appointed to serve as the North <br />Downtown resident representative on the Charlottesville <br />Downtown Foundation. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Towe, Mr. Frank <br />Mueller was unanimously appointed to serve a three-year term <br />and Mr. Wendell Rice was unanimously appointed to serve an <br />unexpired term on the Community Attention Home Advisory <br />Board. Mr. Mueller~s term will expire on September 7, 1992 <br />and Mr. Rice's term will expire on March 1,1991. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Towe, Ms. <br />Leah Puryear was unanimously appointed to fill an unexpired <br />term on the Piedmont Virginia Community College Board. This <br />term will expire on June 30, 1993. <br /> <br /> ~On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Vandever, Ms. <br />Daria Brezinski was unanimously appointed to serve a <br />three-year term and Ms. Victoria Moore was unanimously <br />appointed to serve an unexpired term on the Youth Commission. <br />Ms. Brezinski's term will expire on September 30, 1992 and <br />Ms. Moore's term will expire on September 30, 1991. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, Ms. <br />Linda Bowen was unanimously appointed to serve on the Blue <br />Ridge/Route 20 South Study Advisory Committee. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: HISTORIC PRESERVATION RECOGNITION <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters presented historic preservation recognition <br />awards to Five-Eleven Associates for rehabilitation of the <br />McAllister-Andrews House at 511 Ridge Street; the Hedgerow <br />Corporation for rehabilitation of the Nelson House at 205 <br />East High Street; P & L Properties for restoration of the <br />Sterling/Hawkins Building at 120 East Main Street and William <br />L. and Mary Lee Tazewell for an historically sensitive <br />addition to 2027 Minor Road. Ms. Waters added that May 13 - <br />19, 1990 had been proclaimed Historic Preservation Week in <br />Charlottesville. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, by creating the Historic Landmarks <br />Commission and the Boards of Architectural Review, has <br />recognized the value of encouraging appropriate restoration <br />and preservation of property in the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council wishes to encourage further such <br />preservation efforst; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council has decided that such efforts <br />should be publicly recognized; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council, with the advice of the Historic <br />Landmarks Commission, the Boards of Architectural Review <br />concurring, will recognize outstanding examples of <br />rehabilitation and other historic preservation efforts. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of <br />the City of Charlottesville, recognizes the rehabilitation of <br />the "McAllister-Andrews House" at 511 Ridge Street, and <br />commends its owners Five-Eleven Associates. <br /> <br />Signed and sealed this 7th day of May, 1990. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, by creating the Historic Landmarks <br />Co~mission and the Boards of Architectural Review, has <br /> <br /> <br />
