264 <br /> <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE THE CONVEYANCE <br />OF AN EASEMENT TO CENTRAL TELEPHONE COMPANY AND EXECUTION BY <br />THE MAJOR OF AN OPTION AGREEMENT FOR THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORTATION (VDOT) TO PURCHASE CERTAIN CITY-OWNED <br />PROPERTY ON ROUTE 660" was offered and carried over to the <br />next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that Albemarle County had approved use <br />of Rivanna Park for July 4th fireworks. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe commended the students at Charlottesville High <br />School for raising $1,000 to donate to Albemarle High School <br />to replace equipment lost in the recent fire at Albemarle and <br />requested that the Mayor write a letter complimenting the <br />students. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Towe, the Council <br />unanimously voted to meeting in executive session as <br />authorized by Section 2.1-344 off. the Virginia Code for the <br />purpo~e~ of considering the acquisition or use of real <br />property ~or public purpose, or the disposition of publicly <br />held property, and more specifically described as Water <br />Street parking garage. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motiOn by <br />Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Buck, unanimously certified <br />that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public <br />business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the executive <br />meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and <br />(ii) only such public business matters as were identified in <br />the motion convening the executive meeting were heard, <br />discussed or considered by the Council. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, <br />May 9, 1990 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signe~) <br /> <br /> BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - May 9, 1990 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards, Ms. <br />Waters. Absent: Mr. Towe and Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli, Chairman of the School Board, <br />presented Council with the report on drop-out' prevention and <br />recommended that a more detailed discussion be held on the <br />matter at a later date. Mr. Pezzoli stated that the task <br />force had consisted of approximately 85 persons (40 staff <br />members and 45 community members). Mr. Pezzoli added that a <br />reduction in the drop-out rate has already been achieved this <br />year and attributed this reduction to the commitment on the <br />part of the superintendent to addressing the problem. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ron Hutchinson, Director of Pupil Personnel Services <br />and co-chair of the drop-out prevention task force, stated <br /> <br /> <br />
