268 Mr. Vandever seconded the motion for denial and the permit was unanimously denied, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters absent. RESOLUTION: APPROVING CONTRACT WITH AUDITORS Ms. Rita Scott, Director of Finance, stated that a request for proposals had been done in conjunction with the Audit Committee, on which Mr. Buck and Ms. Waters sit. Seven proposals had been received and reviewed by a five member selection committee. Three firms were picked and invited for oral interviews. One firm was then selected and a fee negotiated. The recommended firm was then presented to the Audit Committee for final review. Mr. Buck, a member of the Audit Committee, stated that the Audit Committee had reviewed the process and ranking of firms and felt that Peat Marwick would provide the best service for the community based on their experienced team, high recommendations and experience with similar type audits. Mr. Buck noted that the cost of the audit will decrease over previous years. On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the resolution approving the contract with the auditors was unanimously approved by Council, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters absent. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City, in form approved by the City Attorney, the follwoing document Agreement for adult services between KPMG Peat Marwick and the Ctiy for professional audit services for fiscal years 1990, 1991 and 1992. A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was adopted. RESOLUTION: FAIR HOUSING MONTH Mr. Towe stated that the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission had requested that the City join in suppOrting the spirit and intent of the Fair Housing Act. On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Buck, the resolution proclaiming Fair Housing Month was unanimously approved, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters absent. WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville would like to join with the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Community Housing Resources Board, and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Board of Realtors in encouraging citizens of the planning district area to support the spirit and intent of the Fair Housing Act, which requires all parties involved in housing to encourage fair and equal opportunity to all participants in the housing market; and WHEREAS, the Act specifically protects persons of all races, religions, national origins, colors, persons with a handicap, elderly persons, persons of either sex, and familial status; and WHEREAS, the month of May has been designated as Fair Housing Month; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Charlottesville will observe Fair Housing Month and supports those activities in the community aimed at increasing all citizens' awareness of fair housing.
