268 <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever seconded the motion for denial and the <br />permit was unanimously denied, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. <br />Waters absent. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING CONTRACT WITH AUDITORS <br /> <br /> Ms. Rita Scott, Director of Finance, stated that a <br />request for proposals had been done in conjunction with the <br />Audit Committee, on which Mr. Buck and Ms. Waters sit. Seven <br />proposals had been received and reviewed by a five member <br />selection committee. Three firms were picked and invited for <br />oral interviews. One firm was then selected and a fee <br />negotiated. The recommended firm was then presented to the <br />Audit Committee for final review. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck, a member of the Audit Committee, stated that <br />the Audit Committee had reviewed the process and ranking of <br />firms and felt that Peat Marwick would provide the best <br />service for the community based on their experienced team, <br />high recommendations and experience with similar type audits. <br />Mr. Buck noted that the cost of the audit will decrease over <br />previous years. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />resolution approving the contract with the auditors was <br />unanimously approved by Council, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. <br />Waters absent. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that the Mayor is hereby authorized to <br />execute on behalf of the City, in form approved by the City <br />Attorney, the follwoing document <br /> <br />Agreement for adult services between KPMG Peat <br />Marwick and the Ctiy for professional audit <br />services for fiscal years 1990, 1991 and 1992. <br /> <br /> A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the <br />minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was <br />adopted. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: FAIR HOUSING MONTH <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that the Thomas Jefferson Planning <br />District Commission had requested that the City join in <br />suppOrting the spirit and intent of the Fair Housing Act. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Buck, the <br />resolution proclaiming Fair Housing Month was unanimously <br />approved, with Rev. Edwards and Ms. Waters absent. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville would like to join <br />with the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, the <br />Charlottesville-Albemarle Community Housing Resources Board, <br />and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Board of Realtors in <br />encouraging citizens of the planning district area to support <br />the spirit and intent of the Fair Housing Act, which requires <br />all parties involved in housing to encourage fair and equal <br />opportunity to all participants in the housing market; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Act specifically protects persons of all <br />races, religions, national origins, colors, persons with a <br />handicap, elderly persons, persons of either sex, and <br />familial status; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the month of May has been designated as Fair <br />Housing Month; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville will observe Fair Housing Month and supports <br />those activities in the community aimed at increasing all <br />citizens' awareness of fair housing. <br /> <br /> <br />
