271 <br /> <br />- NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, June <br />4, 1990 AT ~7:00 p.m. IN THE City Manager's Office. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> 'Executive session to discuss appointments ~to boards <br /> and commissions as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a) of <br /> the Virginia Freedom of Information ~Act. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR ~ ' BY Jeanne~ Cox ~(signed) ~ <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE -~ June 4, 1990 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev~ Edwards, Mr. Towe, <br />Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. BuCk,i seconded by Mr. Towe, Council <br />voted ~to meet i~ executive session to discuss appointments <br />to the Rivanna Wate~ and Sewer Authority as exempted by <br />Section 2.1-344(a) of the ~Virginia Freedom of Information <br />Act, with Rev. Edwards and Mr. Vandever absent for the vote. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Mr. <br />Towe, seconded by Mr. Buck, unanimously certified that, to <br />the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by <br />Virginia law were discussed in the executive meeting to :which <br />this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such <br />public business mattes as were identified in the motion <br />convening the executive meeting were heard, discussed or <br />considered by the CounCil.~ ~ <br /> <br />~COUNCIL CHAMBER June 4, 1990 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br /> following members present: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards, Mr. Towe, <br /> Mr. Vandever, Ms Waters. ] <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> ~ On motionby Mr. Buck, seConded by Mr. Towe, the minutes <br /> of the May 21st meeting were approved as presented, with Rev. <br /> Edwards and Ms. Waters abstaining. <br /> <br />PUBLIC r ~ . ~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Theodore Lesane of Phase II Housing Corporation, <br /> asked Council t~ endorse their low income housing program and <br /> encourage private]sector participation. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: SCHOOL BOARD APPOINTMENTS <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters listed the following applicants for the <br /> vacancies on 'the School Board: -Cliff Bennett, Jim Camblos, <br /> A1 Elias, Steven Friedman,~Jim Hoff, Frances Johnson,~Joyce <br /> Moore~ Linda Seaman, and Cindy Stratton. ~ ~ <br /> <br /> The public hearing:was opened. <br /> <br /> Ms. Judy Nielson of 715 Highland Avenue endorsed Ms. <br />Frances Johnson for appointment to the School Board, noting <br />that Westhaven has never been' represented on the Board and <br />Ms. Johnson would]represe~nt ~single parent, low income <br />families. <br /> <br /> Ms.. DaVe'Breanza s~pported Mr. Steven Friedman for <br />appointment to. the~School Board. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mary Bower of 324 Caroline Avenue stated that Mr. <br />Steven Friedman would'make a good School Board member because <br /> <br /> <br />
