215

NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING

A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday,
May 8, 1991 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Johnson Elementary School.

THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS:

Luncheon meeting with School Board

BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed)

JOHNSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - May 8, 1991

Council met in special session on this date with the
following members present: Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr.
Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Absent: Ms. Waters.

Ms. Slaughter, at the request of Ms. Waters, asked if
Council would agree to ask the Historic Landmarks Commission
for their recommendation on whether the Brasco Bay Property
located at 800 Deleven Street should continue to be listed as
an historic design control district in the zoning ordinance.

It was the consensus of Council to send the matter to
the Historic Landmarks Commission for their recommendation.

Mr. Robert Moje, an architect, gave Council and the
School Board a tour of Johnson School and discussed capital
improvements proposed for the property.

e/n~ge~ng was adjourned.

President

COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 20, 1991

Council met in regular session on this date with the
folloWing members present: Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr.
Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters.

MINUTES

On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, the
minutes of the May 6th meeting were unanimously approved as
presented.

On motion by Ms. Slaughter, seconded by Mr. Vandever,
the minutes of the May 8th meeting were approved as
presented, with Ms. Waters abstaining from the vote.

PUBLIC

Mr. Rick Brown of 325 7 1/2 Street, S.W., President of
the Fifeville Neighborhood Association, made the following
comments about the proposed Fifeville Square development on
King Street: residents of Fifeville were not properly
informed about the plan; the Planning Commission recommended
approval~of the proposal even though a number of people spoke
out against the proposal at the public hearing; the
development would put too many people in too little space;
the proposal is contrary to the City's Comprehensive Plan and
Housing Strategy; plans for parking are inadequate; and the
narrow streets in the neighborhood cannot support the
increased traffic. Mr. Brown recommended that the developer
consider other options for the property and invited Council
for a walking tour of the proposed development on May 29th.

Rev. Edwards stated that he and M~s. Waters will be
absent at the June 3rd meeting and the special permit for the
King Street development proposal will appear on the June 17th
agenda.
