of picking up bagged leaves which had been done on a limited <br />basis this year. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Buck concerning <br />using private contractors for snow grading, Ms. Mueller <br />stated that arrangements have been made to use private <br />contractors if necessary. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, <br />Council voted to meet in executive session to discuss <br />personnel matters and acquisition of property as exempted by <br />Section 2.1-344(a)(1) and (2) of the Virginia Freedom of <br />Information Act, with Mr. Barnes abstaining. <br /> <br /> meetlng was <br /> President <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, <br />January 13, 1988 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. <br />Towe. Absent: Mr. Barnes and Dr. Hall. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dan deBettencourt, architect for the Buford School <br />renovations and addition, reviewed the plans for the eight <br />classroom building addition and noted that the project is <br />presently out to bid. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Dunbar of the School Administration, stated <br />that the renovations at Walker School will be done over the <br />summer. Mr. Dunbar stated that construction costs for the <br />first year would be as follows: Buford - $525,000 and <br />Walker - $287,000. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dunbar explained that the recent explosion at <br />Greenbrier Elementary School had occurred in an electrical <br />panel and damage was confined to the mechanical room, but <br />the cause had not been determined. Mr. Dunbar stated that <br />one custodian had been injured, but was recovering. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dunbar stated that a decision had been made to <br />increase the new classrooms at Walker School to nine which <br />could be done within the confines of the present buildings. <br />Mr. Dunbar stated that it was hoped that this additional <br />classroom could be added within the proposed budget. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dunbar stated that renovations at Clark School were <br />on schedule. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli, Chairman of the School Board, stated <br />that the School Board would be making a decision at its next <br />meeting with regard to out-of-district students attending <br />City schools. Mr. Pezzoli stated that it was the general <br />sense of the Board to raise the tuition and allow admission <br />on a space available basis only. Mr. Pezzoli stated that <br />enrollment of children of non-City resident staff maY not be <br />allowed in the future. Mr. Pezzoli noted that these changes <br />would most likely be phased in. <br /> <br /> <br />
