Responding to a question from Mr. Buck concerning using private contractors for snow grading, Ms. Mueller stated that arrangements have been made to use private contractors if necessary. On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, Council voted to meet in executive session to discuss personnel matters and acquisition of property as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(1) and (2) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, with Mr. Barnes abstaining. meetlng was President adjourned. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Luncheon meeting with School Board BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Towe. Absent: Mr. Barnes and Dr. Hall. Mr. Dan deBettencourt, architect for the Buford School renovations and addition, reviewed the plans for the eight classroom building addition and noted that the project is presently out to bid. Mr. Jim Dunbar of the School Administration, stated that the renovations at Walker School will be done over the summer. Mr. Dunbar stated that construction costs for the first year would be as follows: Buford - $525,000 and Walker - $287,000. Mr. Dunbar explained that the recent explosion at Greenbrier Elementary School had occurred in an electrical panel and damage was confined to the mechanical room, but the cause had not been determined. Mr. Dunbar stated that one custodian had been injured, but was recovering. Mr. Dunbar stated that a decision had been made to increase the new classrooms at Walker School to nine which could be done within the confines of the present buildings. Mr. Dunbar stated that it was hoped that this additional classroom could be added within the proposed budget. Mr. Dunbar stated that renovations at Clark School were on schedule. Mr. John Pezzoli, Chairman of the School Board, stated that the School Board would be making a decision at its next meeting with regard to out-of-district students attending City schools. Mr. Pezzoli stated that it was the general sense of the Board to raise the tuition and allow admission on a space available basis only. Mr. Pezzoli stated that enrollment of children of non-City resident staff maY not be allowed in the future. Mr. Pezzoli noted that these changes would most likely be phased in.
