76 <br /> <br />Student Council has invited City Council and staff to <br />participate in "Sharing Charlottesville," events designed to <br />encourage communication and understanding between the <br />University and community. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason complimented the Department of Parks and <br />Recreation for their implementing of pool parties for middle <br />school children. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe congratulated the Charlottesville High School <br />basketball team for their excellent season. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes reported that Leggett Department Store had <br />donated ten dogwood trees to the City in honor of their <br />100th anniversary. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe commented on the events which took place for <br />the City's 100th anniversary of incorporation as a City on <br />March 2ndo <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall requested that staff look into the safety <br />of pedestrian traffic across McIntire Road. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck recommended that a work session to discuss the <br />proposed smoking ordinance be held in early April. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs° Gleason, seconded by Mr. Towe, <br /> Council voted, with Mr. Barnes, abstaining, to meet in <br /> executive session to discuss personnel, acquisition of <br /> public property, and potential litigation as exempted by <br /> Section 2.1-344(a)(1), (2), and (6) of the Virginia Freedom <br /> o~mation Act. <br />~eeting Was adj°urned'~k~~ ~President C <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A special meeting of the Council will be held on Monday, <br />March 14, 1988 AT 7:30 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Work session on School Board proposed FY 88-89 budget <br /> <br />Work session on City Manager's proposed FY 88-89 budget <br /> <br />Executive session to discuss acquisition of property as <br />exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(2) of the Virginia <br />Freedom of Information Act. <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - March 14, 1988 <br /> <br />WORK SESSION: SCHOOL BOARD PROPOSED FY 88-89 BUDGET <br /> <br /> Dr. Vincent Cibbarelli, Superintendent of City Schools, <br />stated that the Schools are in the process of studying the <br />possible redesign of supplemental salaries for extra- <br />curricular activities but that no increase is recommended <br />for this year. <br /> <br /> Dr. Cibbarelli stated that the funds received by the <br />Schools from the City are expected to increase by 6%, but <br />official word has not been received on the amount to be <br />received by the State.
