99 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, sheriffs in Virginia are required by statute <br />to provide courtroom security, transportation and civil <br />process services for all courts in their jurisdictions; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, since 1972, by informal agreement, the County <br />Sheriff has provided all transportation and bailiff services <br />for the Juvenile Court, with the City funding its share of <br />the local cost~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the caseload of the Juvenile Court has grown <br />tremendously since 1972 and legislative changes have also <br />increased the workload of the personnel providing such <br />services to the Juvenile Court~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Albemarle County Sheriff Terry Hawkins has <br />submitted a budget request to the Compensation Board to cover <br />the cost of an additional deputy sheriff to be assigned to <br />duties in the Juvenile Court~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it will be efficient from both a cost and an <br />administrative perspective for the Albemarle County Sheriff <br />to continue to provide bailiff and transportation services to <br />the Juvenile Court for both County and City cases; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that we do hereby wholeheartedly <br />support the budget request of Sheriff Terry Hawkins to the <br />Compensation Board for an additional deputy to serve the <br />Juvenile Court; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Compensation Board is <br />respectfully requested to give full and serious consideration <br />to providing funding for another deputy sheriff when it meets <br />this month with Sheriff Hawkins to review his budget request. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Towe, Council <br /> voted to meet in executive session to discuss personnel <br /> matters and acquisition and disposition of property as <br /> exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(1) and (2) of the Virginia <br /> Free, of Information Act, with Mr. Barnes abstaining. <br />~eeting was adjourned~ <br /> President C~k ' <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Tuesday, <br />April 12, 1988 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA iS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - April 12, 1988 <br /> <br /> Council met in speCial session on this date with the <br />folloWing members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Mr. Towe. Absent: Dr. Hall. <br /> <br /> Dr. vinCent Cibbarelli, Superintendent of City Schools, <br />stated that the supplemental pay for extra-curricular <br />activities has been found to be competitive with other Valley <br />District schools. Dr. Cibbarelli stated that the School <br />Board has approved a 10% increase for the supplemental <br />salaries for FY 88-89, but a study will be conducted to see <br />if any positions should be eliminated and a report should be <br />available by October 1st. <br /> <br /> <br />
