0 <br />r��:jz.3�fv�cri <br />$20,000 - Centel Rate Case <br />WHEREAS, the Central Telephone Company of Virginia (Centel) <br />has pending before the State Corporation Commission an applica- <br />tion for a rate increase which will substantially increase the <br />cost of telephone service for the city government and for all <br />citizens of the City; and <br />WHEREAS, it appears to this Council that the rates request- <br />ed may exceed those necessary to guarantee Centel a fair and <br />equitable return on its investment; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council has therefore directed the City <br />Attorney and the firm of Miller, Balis and O'Neil, P. C. of <br />Washington, D. C. to file a notice of protest to Centel's propos- <br />ed rates with the State Corporation Commission; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council deems it to be in the public interest <br />to appropriate sufficient funds to the aforesaid attorneys to <br />participate in and present expert testimony at the State <br />Corporation Commission's hearings on Centel's rate application; <br />• now, therefore, be it <br />RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia that the sum of $20,000, or as much thereof as may be <br />necessary, is hereby appropriated from the unappropriated <br />balance of the General Fund to expenditure account 01-92470 to <br />fund the City's active participation in SCC Docket # PUC 810030, <br />Application of Central Telephone Company of Virginia. <br />ADOPTED BY COUNCIL <br />DECEMBER 21, 1981 <br />ATTESTE: <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL <br />• > <br />D <br />
