Pg. 2 <br />(f) "Industrial wastes" shall mean all waterborne solids, liquids or <br />•gaseous wastes resulting from any industrial manufacturing, trade, business <br />or food processing operation or process, or from the development of any <br />natural resource, or any mixture of these with water or domestic sewage as <br />distinct from normal domestic sewage. <br />(g) "Natural outlet" shall mean any outlet into a watercourse, pond, <br />ditch, lake or other body of surface or groundwater. <br />(h) "Normal domestic sewage" shall mean sewage in which concentration <br />of suspended materials and five day 20°C B.O.D. is established at 240 <br />parts per million each, by weight, on the basis of the normal daily contri- <br />bution of twenty hundredths pounds per capita, per 100 gallons. <br />(i) "Parts per million" shall mean a weight to weight ratio; the <br />parts per million value multiplied by the factor 8.345 shall be equivalent <br />to pounds per million gallons of water. <br />(j) "Persons" shall mean any and all persons, natural or artificial, <br />including any individual, firm, company, industry, municipal or private <br />corporation. <br />(k) "pH" shall mean the logarithm (base 10) of the reciprocal of the <br />hydrogen ion concentration of a solution. It shall be determined by one <br />• of the procedures outlined in "Standard Methods". <br />(1) "Point of discharge" shall mean the point at which waste is <br />discharged to the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority sewers by the City of <br />Charlottesville and/or the Albemarle County Service Authority. <br />(m) "Properly shredded garbage" shall mean wastes from the prepara- <br />tion, cooking and dispensing of food which have been shredded to such a <br />degree that all particles will be carried under the flow conditions <br />normally prevailing in the city sanitary sewer system, with no particle <br />greater than one-half inch in any dimension. <br />(n) "Sanitary sewer" shall mean a sewer which carries sewage and to <br />which storm, surface and groundwaters are not intentionally admitted. <br />(o) "Sewage" shall mean a combination of water -carried waste from <br />residential, commercial, institutional and industrial establishments, <br />together with such ground, surface and storm waters as may be present. <br />(p) "Sewage treatment plant" shall mean any arrangement of devices <br />and structures used for treating sewage. <br />•(q) "Sewer" shall mean a pipe or conduit used to collect and carry <br />away sewage or storm water run off from the generating source to treatment <br />sewage plants or receiving streams. <br />
