• AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTION 16-43.1(b) <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, ESTABLISHING THE AUTHORITY OF THE <br />CHIEF OF POLICE TO OBTAIN TOWING AND STORAGE SERVICES <br />FOR ILLEGALLY PARKED VEHICLES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />§16-43.1(b) of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, <br />be amended and reordained as follows: <br />Section 16-43.1. Removal of illegally parked vehicles. <br />(b) T#�e�lrie€��ge�isha�l eentre<t�aifi}ra c#tn}I#fit�erscxtor <br />�eesc>r�s-owrting-er erpera Ei�g-howinc# �rrd-ve l+i�lestcjrage- s eewie.e-s-lo--perfcm�r <br />#i e-remev,a4 and sterage of veltieles-asIn <br />order to meet the requirements of (a) of this section, the chief of police may <br />contract with a qualified person or persons owning or operating towing and <br />vehicle storage services or may use a rotation system composed of qualifed <br />persons owning or operating towing and vehicle storage services. <br />• 1) Such contract or contracts shall be let only by competitive bids, <br />and shall provide that such owner or operator of towing and storage services <br />shall indemnify the owners of vehicles for loss or damage of the vehicles <br />or contents thereof during such removal or storage; provided, however, that <br />if no bids are received after having been duly solicited by public advertise- <br />ment such contract may be let on a negotiated basis. Such contractors shall <br />further be required to furnish the city with evidence of liability insurance <br />adequate to cover such indemnity. Such contract shall also specify the <br />amounts to be charged for removal and storage. <br />Such rotation system shall be composed of persons owning or <br />operating towing and vehicle storage systems who meet criteria based on <br />relevant objective standards developed by the chief of police. The standards <br />shall include but not be limited to, the same insurance requirements as are <br />necessary to operate a towing and vehicle storage service by contract as <br />described in the preceding subsection. <br />Copy Teste: <br />Clerk <br />Adopted by the Council <br />October 17, 1977 <br />
