• AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTION 20-32 <br />OF THE <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976 <br />AS AMENDED, RELATING TO <br />SURVIVOR'S ALLOWANCES <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />20-32 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville be amended and reordained <br />as follows: <br />SECTION 20-32. Survivor's allowance. <br />(a) Should a member die in service at any time before retirement <br />after either becoming eligible for early service retirement under section <br />20-22(c) of the Code, or completing at least thirty years of creditable <br />service, the member's widow, if any, shall receive a retirement allowance <br />payable monthly for life equal to and commencing at the same date as <br />the retirement allowance that would have been payable to the member, <br />computed in accordance with section 20-23(a) of this Code, had the <br />member survived and retired on the first day of the month coinciding with <br />or next following the date on which his death occurs and had he elected <br />to have his allowance paid under the full joint and last survivor <br />option provided for in section 20-31(b) of this Code, with his widow <br />designated as contingent beneficiary, assuming in the case of a member <br />• <br />who had not become eligible for early service retirement at his date <br />of death that the requirements of section 20-22(c) of this Code were <br />such that he would have been eligible for early service retirement and <br />that the retirement allowance payable in such event would be reduced <br />by one-half of one percent for each complete month in the period between <br />the member's date of death and a date five years prior to his normal <br />retirement date. <br />Copy Teste: <br />• <br />Clerk <br />Adopted by the Council <br />February 21, 1978 <br />
