0 <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTION 31-170 <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, RELATING TO MAXIMUM SIGN AREAS <br />ALLOWED UNDER THE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville: <br />1. That §31-170 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, be <br />amended and reordained as follows: <br />Section 31-170. Maximum sign area. <br />(a) The total area of all signs allowed per,establrabertet for any building <br />shall not exceed one hundred fifty square feet except where district regulations are <br />more restrictive or as provided in section 31-179. The area of each sign face shall <br />be included in calculating the total sign area. <br />be <br />• located in a building where the existing establishment (s) has a sign or signs alrea <br />in place, such additional establishment shall be permitted an additional sign area <br />equal to the lesser of: <br />(1) fifty square feet; or <br />(2) the sign area specified by the applicable district regulation <br />set forth in Division 3 of this article. <br />(b) No single sign face of any freestanding or projecting sign shall have an <br />area greater than thirty square feet. <br />(c) No wall sign shall have an area greater than one hundred square feet. <br />(d) No roof sign shall have an area greater than fifty square feet. <br />Adopted by the Council <br />September y, 1972 <br />Copy Teste: Q.., <br />t, <br />• Clerkof the Cowleil <br />
