AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTION 21-8(c) <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE <br />DISPOSITION OF FOUND PROPERTY. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />§21-8(c) of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, <br />be amended and reordained as follows: <br />Section 21. Disposition of unclaimed, lost or confiscated <br />tangible personal property. <br />(c) All other such property shall be held by the police department, <br />awaiting a claim by the rightful owner thereof, for at least sixty days. <br />Whenever such other property that is turned over to the police department <br />remains unclaimed by the rightful owner thereof for at least sixty days, <br />the police chief or his designee shall give notice of such fact to the finder <br />• of such property at the finder's last known address. The finder shall be <br />allowed thirty days, from the date of the said notice from the police chief <br />or his designee, to claim such property. T4ereaftei-, When the chief of <br />police or his designee has determined that the owner of such property <br />cannot be ascertained and that the finder has not claimed, or has not <br />indicated any intention of claiming, such property within thirty days from <br />the date of the said notice that such property could be claimed by the <br />said finder, he shall certify such fact to the city purchasing agent or <br />director of finance and transfer such property to such officials as herein- <br />after provided. <br />Adopted by the Council <br />February 20, 1979 <br />Copy Teste: <br />Clerk of the Council <br />
