• AN ORDINANCE <br />TO REPEAL CHAPTER 5 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />VIRGINIA, 1976, AS AMENDED, AND TO ORDAIN A NEW CHAPTER TO BE <br />NUMBERED 5.05, CONSISTING OF SECTIONS 5.05-1 THROUGH 5.05-33, <br />SUCH NEW CHAPTER BEING AN AMENDMENT AND REORGANIZATION OF <br />THE CITY'S BUILDING CODE, DESIGNED TO CONFORM THE CODE <br />TO RECENT CHANGES IN STATE LAW AND TO MAKE MORE <br />UNIFORM THE REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICIANS, <br />PLUMBERS AND BUILDING -RELATED MECHANICAL WORKERS <br />AND TO INCREASE FEES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia: <br />1. That Chapter 5 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, <br />as amended, is hereby repealed. <br />2. That a new Chapter 5.05 is hereby ordained to become a part of <br />the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, as <br />follows: <br />CHAPTER 5.05 <br />• BUILDINGS. <br />ARTICLE I. BUILDING CODE <br />Section 5.05-1. Adoption of Statewide Building Code. <br />There is hereby incorporated by reference into this Code those <br />documents, which effective September 1, 1973 and thereafter, have <br />been duly adopted and designated by the authorized agencies of the <br />Commonwealth as the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Copies <br />of such documents shall be kept on file for public inspection in the <br />office of the division of inspections. The provisions thereof shall <br />govern and control all matters concerning the construction, alter- <br />ation, addition, repair, removal, demolition, occupancy and maintenance <br />of all buildings, and all other functions which pertain to the instal- <br />lation of systems vital to all buildings and structures and their <br />service equipment as defined by such Virginia Uniform Statewide <br />Building Code, and shall apply uniformly to all buildings within the <br />city. <br />Section 5.05.2. Building official. <br />The building official referred to throughout this chapter shall <br />be the chief of inspections, in the inspections division of the <br />city's public works department, or his or her designee, or such <br />other person as may be designated by the director of public works. <br />
