0 <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 4 <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 4-16 TO <br />INCREASE DOG LICENSE TAXES AND TO ADD AN EXCEPTION TO THE <br />LICENSE REQUIREMENT FOR HEARING DOGS. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia: <br />1. That Section 4-16 of Article II of Chapter 4 of the Code of the <br />City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, is further amended as <br />follows: <br />Section 4-16. Dog license taxes. <br />(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to own a dog six months <br />old or over in the city, except as provided in subsection (b) of this <br />section, unless such dog is licensed as required by the provisions of <br />this chapter and state law. Dog licenses shall run from January 1 to <br />December 31, inclusive, and the license tax, payable at the office of <br />the treasurer, shall be as follows: <br />{a} (1) For a male dog, one three dollars. <br />fib} (2) For an unsexed female dog, one three dollars. <br />4e} (3) For a female dog, three five dollars. <br />{&} (4) For a kennel of twenty dogs, fifteen twenty dollars. <br />{e} (5) For a kennel of fifty dogs, twenty-five thirty-five <br />dollars. <br />(b) Previele&;-that-me No license tax shall be levied on any <br />dog that is trained and serves as a guide dog for a blind person.- or <br />that is trained and serves as a hearing dog for a deaf or hearing <br />impaired person. As used in this section, "hearing dog" means a do <br />trained to alert its owner by touch to sounds of danger and sounds <br />to which the owner should respond. <br />2. That this ordinance shall become effective June 1, 1981, provided <br />• that all licenses issued for 1981 prior to June 1, 1981 will continue <br />to be valid through 1981. <br />Atteste: Adopted by Council <br />May 18, 1981 <br />Clerk o= ounce <br />
