AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 24 <br />• <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976 (AS AMENDED) <br />TO CONFORM INDUSTRIAL WASTE DISCHARGE REGULATIONS <br />TO NEW FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS; REPEALING <br />SECTIONS 24-15, 24-16, 24-17, 24-18, 24-20, AND 24-25; <br />AMENDING SECTIONS 24-12, 24-14, 24-19, 24-21, 24-22, 24-23 AND 24-24; <br />AND ADDING NEW SECTIONS NUMBERED 24-14.1, 24-14.2, 24-14.3, <br />24-20.1, 24-20.2, 24-20.3, 24-20.4, 24-20.5, 24-20.6, <br />24-26, 24-27, 24-28, 24-29 AND 24-30. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia: <br />1. That sections 24-15, 24-16, 24-17, 24-18, 24-20 and <br />24-25 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia <br />are hereby repealed. <br />2. That the remainder of Article II of Chapter 24 of the <br />Code of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia be amended and re - <br />ordained as follows: <br />ARTICLE II. INDUSTRIAL WASTE DISCHARGE. <br />• Section 24-12. Definitions. <br />As used in this article, the following words and, phrases <br />and abbreviations shall have the meanings hereinafter ascribed to <br />them, unless otherwise clearly required by the context: <br />(a) B.O.D. or biochemical oxygen demand. The laboratory <br />determination of the quantity of oxygen by weight, expressed in <br />parts per million, utilized in the biochemical oxidation of organic <br />matter, under standard laboratory preeedure conditions in five (5) <br />days at 20 C.;-expressed-in-parts-per-Rt#}}}en. The laboratory <br />determination of the oxygen equivalent expressed in parts per million <br />of that portion of the orcranic matter that is susceptible to oxidation <br />by the standard dichromate reflux method. The laboratory determinat <br />shall be made in accordance with the procedures set forth in <br />• "Standard Methods." <br />
