(c) One projecting sign is permitted for each separate <br />• storefront fronting on a public right-of-way at ground level. <br />(d) No single sign face of any projecting sign shall have an <br />area greater than ten square feet. <br />fbJ L1 Projecting signs shall have a projection of not more <br />than thirty-six inches from the surface of the structure, except <br />marquees, which shall be subject to regulations as provided in <br />Section 31-174 of this Code. <br />feJ u Projecting signs shall not be allowed above the <br />cornice line. <br />fd3 (q) Projecting signs shall not contain any information <br />other than the name, logo or the symbol of the establishment. <br />fe3 (h) The character of all signs shall be harmonious to the <br />character of the structure on which they are to be placed. Among <br />other things, consideration shall be given to the location of signs <br />on the structure in relation to the surrounding buildings; the use <br />of compatible colors; the use of appropriate materials; the size <br />and style of lettering and graphics; and the type of lighting. <br />f£i (i) All signs in this district shall be subject to review <br />in accordance with the procedures set forth in article XIX of this <br />chapter, with appeals to the downtown board of architectural <br />• review. <br />Sec. 31-237. Petitions for exceptions, variances or <br />interpretations. <br />(a) Petitions for special exceptions, variances and <br />interpretations may be made by any property owner, tenant, or <br />government official, department, board or bureau. Such petitions <br />shall be made to the zoning administrator in accordance with the <br />requirements of this chapter and the rules of the board of zoning <br />appeals. The petition and accompanying maps, plans or other <br />information shall be transmitted promptly to the secretary of the <br />board, who shall place the matter on the docket. A copy of the <br />petition shall be sent to the planning commission which may send <br />a recommendation to the board or appear as a party in the hearing. <br />Once a petition has been considered by the Board of Zoning Appeals. <br />Approved by Council <br />September 18, 1989 <br />rk of Council <br />89-7-30 <br />
