• AN ORDINANCE <br />PROHIBITING INTERFERENCE WITH OR MISTREATMENT OF <br />ANIMALS OWNED BY THE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. <br />• <br />• <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia that a new section, numbered 17-20.1, is hereby added to <br />Chapter 17 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as <br />amended, to read as follows: <br />Sec. 17-20.1. Police animals. <br />Any person who willfully torments, beats, kicks, strikes, <br />injures or otherwise mistreats an animal owned by the Police <br />Department or who willfully interferes with the lawful performance <br />of such animal in a police activity shall be guilty of a Class II <br />misdemeanor. Any person who willfully touches such animal in any <br />manner after being directed not to do so by a police officer shall <br />be guilty of a Class IV misdemeanor. <br />Approved by Council <br />June 5, 1989 <br />rk of Counci <br />
