• AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REORDAINING SECTIONS 5-56,5-57,5-58,5-60 AND 5-62 OF ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 5 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO PERMIT FEES. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that: 1. Sections 5-56, 5-57, 5-58, 5-60 and 5-62 of Article II of Chapter 5 of the Charlottesville City Code, 1990, as amended, are hereby amended and reordained as follows: CHAPTER 5. BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS ARTICLE II. BUILDING CODE Division 2. Permits and Fees Sec. 5-56. Building permits. (a) Fees for building permits issued pursuant to the building code shall be as set forth in this section. (b) A minimum fee of right dollars ($8 nm fifty dollars ($50.00) shall be charged • for each permit issued when the total cost or the total physical value of the work performed is no more than two thousand dollars ($2,000.00). When the cost or the total physical value of the work is in excess of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00), the fee shall be fifty dollars ($50.00) plus additional fees based on the following schedule: Cost or Value Fee $ 2,001.00 to $ 50,000.00 $4.00 per $1,000.00 $50,001.00 to $100,000.00 $39A 9A $242.00 plus $3.00 per $1,000.00 over $50,000.00 Over $100,000.00 $3 5Q 89 $382.00 plus $2.00 per $1,000.00 over $100,000.00 Effective April 1, 1990, the foregoing fee for issuance of a building permit shall have added to it a surcharge of one (1) percent of such permit fee. The one -percent surcharge has been levied by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development pursuant to section 36-137 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, and will be remitted quarterly to that department by the city. (c) All permits shall be issued upon payment of the fee based on the estimated total physical value. Upon completion of the work for which a permit is issued, an accurate statement of the actual cost thereof shall be furnished to the building official by the party to whom the permit was issued. An adjustment of the difference between the fee properly chargeable, based on the actual cost, and the fee paid, based on the estimated total physical value, shall then be made. If the actual cost exceeds the estimated cost, the party to whom the permit was issued shall pay the difference in the fee. If the actual cost is less than the estimated cost, the city treasurer is hereby authorized, upon request of the building official, to Page 1
