Sec. 34-685. Facilities --by District. <br />(a) Within the city's residential zoning districts (R-1, R -1-A, R-2, R-3, RHD, R -MHP, R -MHS) and within <br />• the city's historic and entrance corridor overlay districts: <br />(1) The following shall be permitted uses: antennae or microcells mounted on existing <br />communications towers established prior to February 20, 2001, attached communications facilities <br />utilizing utility poles or other electric transmission facilities as the attachment structure; and other attached <br />communications facilities if such other attached communications facilities are not visible from any <br />adjacent street or property. <br />(2) The following shall be prohibited uses: attached communications facilities where such facilities <br />are visible from any adjacent street or property, and communications facilities utilizing alternative tower, <br />monopole tower, guyed tower, lattice tower and self-supporting tower support structures. <br />(b) Within a mixed-use zoning district (PUD and Transition Zone districts), and within the city's B-1, B-2, <br />B-4, B-5 and B-6 zoning districts: <br />(1) The following shall be permitted uses: attached communications facilities, and antennae or <br />microcells located on existing communications towers established prior to February 20, 2001. <br />(2) The following shall be prohibited: communications facilities utilizing alternative tower, monopole <br />tower, guyed tower, lattice tower and self-supporting tower support structures. <br />(c) Within the city's B-3, M-1 and M-2 zoning districts: <br />(1) The following shall be permitted uses: attached communications facilities, and communications <br />facilities utilizing an alternative tower, monopole tower, lattice tower and self-supporting tower <br />• structures. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a freestanding communications facility located within 500 <br />feet of a residentially -zoned property, a design control district or a protected property shall be <br />permitted only if an alternative tower support structure is used. <br />(2) The following shall be prohibited: communications facilities utilizing guyed -tower support <br />structures. <br />Sec. 34-686. Height. <br />(a) Where attached communications facilities are permitted, the attachment structure shall be at least forty <br />(40) feet in height, and the total height of the communications facility (including the attachment structure, <br />antenna and any attachment devices) shall not be more than twenty (20) feet greater than the original <br />height of the attachment structure. <br />(b) The following height restrictions shall apply to all freestanding communications facilities: <br />(1) Where a support structure is used by and for a single communications facility, maximum <br />height shall not exceed seventy (70) feet. <br />(2) Where a support structure is used by and for two co -located communications facilities, then <br />maximum height shall not exceed one hundred (100) feet. <br />(3) Where a support structure is used by and for three or more co -located communications <br />facilities, then maximum height shall not exceed one hundred fifty (150) feet. <br />(c) Any communications facility which exceeds the height restrictions or dimensions allowed by right <br />• under paragraphs (a) or (b), above, shall require a special use permit. <br />Page 4 of 13 <br />
