ronertv bail bondsman. or suretv bail bondsman. as those terms are defined in 0.1-185 of the <br />• Code of Virginia <br />°Contractor shall have the meaning prescribed in Virginia Code ceetion 58 .1 3 714 58.1- <br />3714(D), <br />- <br />3714 D , whether such work is done or offered to be done by day labor, general contract or <br />subcontract. <br />Sec. 14-3. License required; requiring evidence of payment of business license, personal <br />property, meals and other taxes. <br />(a).... <br />5(b)No business license under this chapter shall be issued until the applicant has produced <br />satisfactory evidence that all delinquent business license, personal property, meals, transient <br />occupancy, severance and admissions andaily ilyr-ental taxes owed by the business to the city <br />have been paid. <br />(1)The city shall not deny a business license to any person, solely on the grounds that such <br />person has failed to pay taxes, penalties and interest due to the city, as may be applicable, when <br />and to the extent that such taxes, penalties and interest are the subject of a pending, bona fide: (i) <br />application for correction of an assessment of taxes; (ii) appeal of a local tax, local business tax, <br />or local license tax; or (iii) appeal by the city of a correction of assessment of local taxes. <br />(2)Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to require the issuance by the city of any local <br />vehicle license that has been withheld for non-payment of personal property taxes. <br />• 6(c)No business license under this chapter shall be issued to any property bail bondsman unless <br />and until (i) prior to July 1, 2005, the applicant shall produce a certificate from the judge of the <br />circuit court of the county or city in which he conducts the business of a property bail bondsman, <br />or in which he desires to conduct such business (a license granted to a property bail bondsman in <br />any such county or city shall authorize such person to enter into such bonds in any other county <br />or city), or (ii) effective on or after July 1 2005, the applicant shall produce a valid bail <br />bondsman license issued by the Department of Criminal Justice Services; provided however, <br />that any bail bondsman who, prior to July 1, 2004 obtained the certificate referenced in (i) <br />above, and such certificate and right to act as a property bail bondsman remains in full force and <br />effect, such certificate shall be sufficient evidence of the state approval prerequisite to issuance <br />of a city business license. No property bail bondsman or his agent shall enter into any bond or <br />bonds within the city until he has obtained a city business license, as required by subsection (a) <br />above, or unless he holds a valid business license issued by another city or county in which he <br />engages in the business of property bail bonding. The failure of any property bail bondsman to <br />comply with the requirements of this subsection shall constitute a Class 1 misdemeanor, and in <br />addition to any criminal penalty to which it may be entitled, the City may revoke any business <br />license issued by it to such person. <br />4 Va.
