To "bridge the gap"
between the mandatory retirement age and Social Security, the City provides public
safety employees with a retirement supplement. Since the Social Security
retirement age is being increased beyond 65, this amendment allows the supplement
to continue until the employee reaches the age for eligibility for unreduced Social
Security benefits, as in effect on July 1, 2005. Employees born in 1937 or earlier still
qualify for Social Security at age 65; 66 is the retirement age for those born between
Is
1943 and 1954, and employees born in 1960 and later must work until 67 to get
unreduced Social Security benefits.]
Approved by Council
September 19, 2005
L
C er o City Council
FA
