• (a) No hogs or sheep shall be kept in the city except for immediate shipment or <br />slaughter. <br />(b) No goats shall be kept within the city. <br />Sec. 4-9 4-10. Parking vehicles containing livestock. <br />It shall be unlawful for any person to park any vehicle containing livestock on any <br />street within any u ' R 2 or R 3 residential zoning district within the city, as designated <br />by chapter 34 of this Code, for more than one-half hour. A vehicle shall be considered <br />parked for one-half hour if it is not moved at least one (1) block within that period. <br />[NOTE: The preceding six sections, 4-5 through 4-10, are in the current City Code, <br />and are merely being renumbered] . <br />Sec. 4-11. Dogs and cats deemed personal property; rights. <br />a) All dogs and cats shall be deemed nersonal orooertv and may be the subiect of <br />larceny and malicious or unlawful trespass. Owners, as defined in section 4-2, may <br />maintain any action for the killing of any such animals, or injury thereto, or unlawful <br />• detention or use thereof as in the case of other personal property. <br />(b) In addition to any penalty imposed herein, any owner who violates a provision <br />of this Chapter shall be liable for any loss or damage resulting from the violation, <br />including but not limited to reasonable and necessary medical and hospitalization <br />expenses, loss of wages, veterinary bills, the fair market value or replacement cost of any <br />animal killed or euthanized as a result of the violation, and any additional consequential <br />damages. <br />c) An animal control officer or other law enforcement officer finding a stolen <br />dog or cat, or a dog or cat held or detained contrary to law, shall have authority to seize <br />and hold such animal pending action before a general district court or other court. If no <br />such action is instituted within seven days, the animal control officer or other officer shall <br />deliver the dog or cat to its owner <br />d) The presence of a dog or cat on the premises of a person other than its legal <br />owner shall raise no presumption of theft against the owner, and the animal control <br />officer may take such animal in charge and notify its legal owner to remove it. The legal <br />owner of the animal shall oav the actual costs for the keeping of such animal while in the <br />ossession of the animal control officer <br />[NOTE: This section 4 -His new, and follows the language in Virginia Code sec. 3.1- <br />• 796.127.] <br />
