• A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE POLICY <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL .WITH REGARD TO <br />APPOINTMENTS TO THE <br />SOCIAL•'DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br />WHEREAS, this Council -ori March 11, 1974 and June 28, 1976 <br />adopted resolutions establishing a procedure for the selection of <br />persons to be appointed' to the Social Development Commission; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council now finds it desirable to provide <br />increased flexibility in such selection procedure, while still <br />giving due consideration to the interests represented -in such <br />process; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the.City of <br />Charlottesville that the aforesaid resolutions adopted March 11, <br />1974 and June'28, 1976 are hereby repealed; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following policies and <br />procedures will henceforth be adhered to by the Council in select- <br />ing the persons to be appointed to the'Social Development <br />• Commission: <br />(1) The Chairmen of the Boards of Directors of the United <br />Way, the Council of Churches and the Chamber of Commerce and the <br />Chairman of the City School Board will be asked to nominate not <br />more than three members of their respective boards who are <br />residents of the City; <br />(,2) The President of the University of.Virginia will be <br />asked to nominate not more than three representatives of the <br />University administration who are residents of the City; <br />(3) The Chairman of the Welfare Advisory.Board will be <br />requested to nominate not more than six present or former <br />recipients of welfare services who are City residents, and the <br />Council' will select two of such nominees for appointment to the <br />Commission; <br />(4) The ranking student government officer at Charlottesville <br />High School will be'asked'to nominate not'more than three members <br />of the student.body;. <br />(5) The local Chapter of the American Association of Retired <br />• Persons will be asked to nominate not more than three of'its <br />members who reside in the City; <br />
