• RESOLUTION.REQUESTING THAT THE <br />GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION <br />HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING IN CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />ON THE ADVISABILITY OF RELOCATING THE <br />DOWNTOWN POST OFFICE AND DISTRICT COURT HOUSE <br />WHEREAS, the General Services Administration has expressed its desire to vacate <br />the present Downtown Post Office - Federal Courthouse Building in order to construct a new <br />federal building at a different location; and <br />WHEREAS, the Intergovernmental Cooperation Act of 1968, National Environmental <br />Policy Act of 1969, and provisions of other Federal laws, executive orders, and <br />administrative regulations require meaningful consultation with local communities to <br />determine whether any anticipated change in location would have a substantial negative <br />impact on this community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Charlottesville considers the Downtown <br />Post Office a vital part of the Downtown area and is concerned that any relocation of the <br />Downtown Post Office - Federal Courthouse Building from its present location on East <br />Market Street would have a detrimental social and environmentalimpact; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />' •ville requests that the General Services Administration hold one or more public hearings in <br />the City of Charlottesville with representatives from the General Services Administration, <br />the U. S. Postai Services, local officials and Virginia's U. S.
