• A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE POLICY OF THE CITY COUNCIL WITH REGARD TO APPOINTMENTS TO THE SOCIAL.DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION WHEREAS, this Council on:March -11., 1974,. June 28., 1976 and November 1, 1976 adopted resolutions establishing a procedure for the selection of persons to be appointed to the Social Development Commission; and e` :4 ,l. WHEREAS, this -Council now finds it -desirable to provide increased flexibility in such selection,procedure,.while still. giving due.consideration to the interests represented in such process; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED.`by,the'Coiincil,pf the City of Charlottesville that the aforesaid resolutions adopted March 11, 1974, June 28, 1976 and November 1, 1976'are-.hereby repealed; and BE IT FURTHER.RESOLVED that,the'following policies and procedures will henceforth be adhered°to by the Council in select- ing the persons to be appointed to the Social Development • Commission: (1) The Chairmen of the Boards of Directors of the United Way and the Chamber of Commerce and the Chairman of the City School Board will be asked to nominate not more than three members of their respective boards who are residents of the City; (2) The Council will appoint one representative from city. churches; (3) The President of the,University of Virginia•will be asked to nominate not more than three representatives of the, University administration who are residents of the City; . (4) The Director of the Department of Social Services will be requested to nominate not more than six present or former recipients of welfare services or other poverty group -represent- atives; (5) The ranking student government officer at Charlottesville High School will be.asked to nominate not more than three members of'the student body;.
