0 <br />A RESOLUTION <br />URGING THE GOVERNOR TO VETO <br />SENATE BILL 623 <br />WHEREAS, Senate Bill 623, pending in the General Assembly <br />of Virginia, would impose upon the legal departments of local <br />governments the duty of conducting right-of-way acquisition and <br />condemnation litigation for the Virginia :Department of Highways <br />and Transportation; and <br />WHEREAS, this legislation provides inadequate assurance <br />that -the localities would be fully reimbursed for their true <br />costs in providing this service;,land. '. <br />WHEREAS, this legislation presents the potential for <br />practical and ethical conflicts of interest for the local <br />government attorneys upon whom this'responsibility would be <br />imposed; now, therefore, be,it <br />• RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville <br />that Senate Bill 623 is not'deemed by this Council to serve <br />the best interests of the Commonwealth or its local governments; <br />and be it further <br />RESOLVED that the Governor is respectfully requested to <br />exercise his executive discretion to veto this unwise legislation. <br />A Copy Teste: <br />................... ...... <br />Clerk of the Council <br />• <br />Adopted by the Council <br />February 20, 1979 <br />
