A RESOLUTION ENDORSING <br />HOUSE BILL 349 TO GRANT A TAX <br />EXEMPTION TO HEARTHSTONE CHILDREN'S HOUSE, INC. <br />WHEREAS, House Bill 349 currently pending in the General <br />Assembly of Virginia would add a section to Title 58 of the <br />Code of Virginia to confer tax-exempt status on Hearthstone <br />Children's House, Inc.; and <br />WHEREAS, Hearthstone Children's House, Inc. has been <br />established as a non -stock, non-profit corporation to fulfill <br />the charitable and benevolent objective of providing housing <br />for families of children receiving medical treatment at the <br />University of Virginia Medical Center; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council has considered whether the property <br />of Hearthstone Children's House, Inc. should be exempt from <br />taxation at a public hearing duly advertised as required by <br />Va. Code Section 30-19.2, held on February 16, 1982; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council finds that Hearthstone Children's <br />House, Inc: <br />(1) Is exempt from federal taxation pursuant to <br />5501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954; <br />(2) Holds no current license from the Alcoholic <br />Beverage Control Board; <br />(3) Pays no compensation to any officer or director <br />in excess of reasonable allowance for services <br />rendered; <br />(4) Does not distribute any part of its net earnings <br />to any individual and generates a substantial <br />part of its funds from private donations; <br />(5) Provides services for the common good of the <br />public; <br />(6) Does not carry on substantial activities to <br />influence legislation or political campaigns; and <br />(7) Has no rule, regulation, policy or practice <br />discriminating on the basis of religion, race, <br />color, sex or national origin; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it Resolved by the Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville that the Council does hereby endorse, support <br />0 <br />
